So as to remain in control of the supply chain they have a central go-down in Germany from where they control the distribution worldwide, their supply strategy allows them to bring products to the market in less than three weeks. In contrast, Benetton has a vertically integrated supply chain which means they control most of their own supply chain, this makes it easy for them to focus on quality control and promote the concept of worldwide brand awareness. When they are making fast-moving products they will use production facilities in Europe and then use their Asian suppliers for standardization purposes. Daphne Scholinski the Last Time I Wore a Dress Essay

Daphne Scholinski’s memoir The Last Time I Wore A Dress is a touching narrative of a girl who was misunderstood. Throughout her childhood and young adulthood, Daphne struggled with identifying with her feelings. Daphne was constantly searching for an answer to why she felt different. Daphne wanted to â€Å"fit in† but she knew she was unconventional. The different labels she was given through out her psychiatric stay stuck with her and left a scar of how she was once perceived. Daphne had very low self esteem through out her childhood. This is because her parents ignored her and gave her little affection. â€Å"She didn’t even notice when I walked out of her apartment, ran down the stairs,† (Scholinski 4). Her self esteem was worse at her dads†¦show more content†¦She know that this is the root of her problem and she try’s to avoid it at all costs. She is afraid of their perception of her and if she will have to change. Daphne goes through a metamorphosis through her memoir. She viewed her as tough and that doesn’t change. However her thoughts of being an under achiever change after her self esteem is restored, which doesn’t fully happen until her stay at the Wilson Center. The Wilson Center is where she has the best perceptions of herself; she feels independent, smart, fun, and friendly. Daphne had a very hard time understanding her thoughts and feelings until the Wilson Center. The patients are who gave Daphne strength, the positive environment let Daphne explore who she was and relax and have fun. The Wilson center represents the adolescence that she should have had. Mary Shelley Essay Example For Students

Mary Shelley Essay Mary Shelley also wrote sentences which would make the reader sympathise with the monster. These are said by the monster when states, I sat down and wept. Here not only does the monster describes himself as a baby but also as a being which people would feel sympathy for. When someone will cry automatically people would feel sympathy for them, so in the same way people would sympathise for the creature. As well as the monster expressing him as a new born, he also shows his intelligence in chapters 11-16. There are many actions which the monster does to show his intelligence. In chapter 11 he shows how observing something would increase ones knowledge. I examined the materials of the fire, and to my joy found it to be composed of wood. At this part the monster says that just by looking at the materials that were used to create the fire, he knew in which way the fire was created. This here shows the ability of the monsters observational skills and how quickly he can link it to other stuff. In this case how he can observe something and then link it to how the observation was done. Shortly after the monsters experience with fire, he finds something awkward about what he had said after putting out the fire. How strange, I thought, that the same cause should produce such opposite effects! The monster finds it strange because a fire was meant to cause pain and hurt but for him it was joyful. This does not justify for what Frankenstein said about the monster gaining pleasure from evil but shows how the monster can tell when something is bad it can also be a source of goodness. So this phrase shows how the monster found it strange for fire to give him joy not hurt and pain. Not only does the monster show off his observational skills, he possesses something which normal human beings posses. That is the ability to learn something new everyday. The evidence for this is when the monster says, my mind received every day additional ideas. Here the monster tells the reader that everyday he learns something new. This also shows how quickly he can learn. It didnt take him a long time to seize knowledge. While a normal person would take years to develop his intellect, the monster was able to improve his own intelligence very quickly. The monster, in the novel, carries on telling the reader what he had learned. For example I distinguished the insect from the herb, and, by degrees, one herb from another. This shows his ability to tell apart from a plant and an insect. Although the monster was able to observe and then apply the observation to real life and also was able to distinguish between animals and plants, the monster was yet not able to utter any words. So because of the absence of language he was not able to communicate. He felt that is was a need for him to learn the language of the cottagers. He says, in two months I began to comprehend most of the words uttered by my protectors. This shows that the ability to learn a new language for the monster is a simple task for him. While for a human it would take years to learn a new language. This means that the monster has unique qualities which outshine the qualities of humans. Also not only does it shows his abilities but also shows his determination to learn and seek knowledge. In two months the monster was able to learn most words the cottagers were saying, meaning that he really wanted to learn, so therefore he learned quickly. Further evidence of him learning rapidly is when Safie, the Arabian, also wants to learn the language so he learns with her. He says, I improved more rapidly than the Arabian, who understood very little, and conversed in broken accents, whilst I comprehended and could imitate almost every word that was spoken. This is proof that he learns faster than humans and better. The monster was able to get the correct accent whilst Safie was struggling.

Agent Silverheels provided the following information: At approximately 9:30am on April 1, 2013, Richard Betcher and Nancy Stuart from Farmington, New Mexico, stopped by to see Anthony Zepanski at his residence at 730 Mountain Highway, SUIR, CO xxxxx. They discovered the body of Mr. Zepanski in the kitchen/dining room and the body of Ms. Betcher verified that Zepanski and Browning were dead. They then decided to leave the residence immediately. Betcher paniced at first and did not want to get involved; However, after having a discussion with Stuart they drove to the town of Ignacio, CO and contacted Town Marshal David Duschene, 111 Main Street, Ignacio, CO xxxxx, telephone number (xxx) xxx-xxxx. Marshal Duschene immediately contacted the Southern Ute Police Department (SUPD), 1973 Ute Way, SUIR, CO, xxxxx, telephone number (xxx) xxx-xxxx. The SUPD dispatched Officer Leonard Slye and Officer William Boyd to the crime scene. The Officers identified the victims and confirmed the double homicide. They contacted SUPD Dispatch via radio and secured the scene. Marshal Duschene then wrote an Incident Report regarding the information about Mr. Betcher and Ms. Stuart. The Marshal advised them to return to Farmington, New Mexico and that a representative from the agency that has jurisdiction in this crime would contact and interview them. Betcher and Stuart then drove back to Farmington, New Mexico. Agent Silverheels advised that he was at the SUPD Headquarters when the radio message was received from the two officers. Agent Silverheels then, on behalf of the SUPD, contacted My partner and I, FBI, Durango, CO, Regarding the double homicide. Agent Silverheels advised that he and Marshal Duschene would meet the two of us at the crime scene. Case No. 2013-41-SP BKJ On April 1, 2013 Special Agent (SA) Benjamin Jenkins and SA Ike Fairlane, Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), 10433 Ponderosa, Durango. CO xxxxx, telephone number (xxx) xxx-xxxx went to a double homicide at 730 mountain Highway, Southern Ute Indian Reservation (SUIR), CO. My partner and I were accompanied by Special Investigator (SI) Steven Burrier, Chief Investigator, La Plata County District Attorney’s Office, 5415 Hondo Pass Road, Durango, CO xxxxx, telephone number (xxx) xxx-xxxx. My partner and I along with SI Burrier then met Agent Silverheels, Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), 111 Ute Way, SUIR, CO xxxxx, telephone number (xxx) xxx-xxxx and Marshal David Duschene, 111 Main Street Ignacio, CO xxxxx, telephone number (xxx) xxx-xxxx at the crime scene. All of the investigators met at the crime scene to determine primary jurisdiction in the case and to assist each other. After all investigators did a walkthrough of the crime scene it was determined that the jurisdiction belonged to the FBI. While the five investigators surveyed the crime scene a discussion took place among them. My partner and I learned the following from that discussion. Marshal Duschene advised that Anthony ‘Tony’ Zepanski is a non-Indian and was renting the house on the SUIR, CO, near the town of Ignacio, CO. Zepanski moved from Tucson, Arizona to Colorado over a year ago. He had been a minor drug user. He was never a drug dealer. His drug use led to his divorce and he had to come to Colorado for a fresh start. Zepanski did not presently own a vehicle and did not have telephone service at his house. He lived somewhat of a hippie life style and earned money through odd jobs such as woodcutting. This past summer the Southern Ute Tribe employed him as a supervisor of a youth work program. Zepanski had the reputation of being very hospitable and a excellent cook. He often invited friends over for a meal. Agent Silverheels identified the female victim as Colleen Browning. She resided in the town of Ignacio, Colorado and is part Tlingit Indian. She was employed as a part-time teller at the bank of Ignacio and she was attending Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO. Browning had the reputation of being a very nice young lady. Everyone at the crime scene, who knew her, was surprised to see her as a crime victim. Zepanski apparently liked her and had met her at the bank where he had a checking account It appeared from the crime scene that Zepanski had invited browning to his home for a meal. After the initial survey of the scene, the formal crime scene investigation was initiated. The first key pieces of evidence were located next to the dirt driveway in front of the house, i. e a Colorado hunting license (Copy Attached) in the name of Terry Irvin, six Winchester . 357 magnum shell casings and tire tracks. Following the discovery of the Colorado hunting license and the Winchester . 357 shell casings a conversation took place among the five investigators. My partner and I learned the following additional information from Marshal Duschene and Agent Silverheels. Marshal Duschene identified Terry Irvin as a prominent citizen of Ignacio, CO, and that he is an unlikely suspect in this case. Marshal Duschene advised that he has known Mr. Irvin for many years and that he is the owner/operator of irvins Rocket Chevron in Ignacio, CO. Marshal Duschene said that one week prior Irvin’s ? ton green Chevrolet truck was stolen from his residence. Other items in the truck included Irvin’s wallet containing the Colorado hunting license, chevron credit card, Sinclair credit card $100 in cash, driver’s license, and a Smith amp; Wesson . 57 Magnum revolver. Marshal Duschene stated that a copy of the Auto Theft Report is available at his office in Ignacio, Colorado. He also stated that he has identifying information on the two individuals that reported the double homicide to him, i. e. Mr. Richard Betcher and Ms. Nancy Stuart. Agent Silverheels said, after the hearing Marshal Duschene’s remarks about the stolen truck, that recalled that there has been a rumor on the SUIR that some guy named ‘Smith’ had been driving around the reservation in a green truck. Agent Silverheels said this information was memorable because smith is not known to be regularly employed, own a vehicle of any kind, and has had a reputation of getting into trouble, with law enforcement regarding drugs. SI Burrier asked that he be ikept apprised of this investigation in order to keep the La Plata County District Attorney J. Keny Cameron updated on the progress of the case since the SUIR is within the boundaries of the La Plata County, CO.

Major Crime free essay sample

What is the purpose of major crime-reporting programs? What makes a successful crime-reporting program in the United States? The purpose for major crime-reporting programs is to try to improve the methology and to publish the collective data. So by having major crime-reporting programs the law enforcement agencies are able to get information and also collect data to figure out the crime patterns of the nation instead of just one spot. This is hard though because not all of the crimes that end up happening get reported. So by this being said not everything can go into the crime-reporting programs. I think the government needs to try to find another way to get these â€Å"smaller† none reported crimes to be reported. What makes a successful crime reporting program in the United States is that most of the crimes do get reported the way that they should, and that the police officers are doing their job to the best of their abilities. Is there a way to improve the correlation between crime rates, arrest rates, and clearance rates in the effort to combat criminal activity? Crime rates are when the number is divided by the total number of crimes that are what they called â€Å"cleared. † This is when the crime is closed, finished or they found the criminal in whatever was going on with the crime. To combat criminal activity the police can gather the information from the UCR (uniform crime report). From what I was reading â€Å" clearance rates is the percentage of crimes that have been closed by arrest, exceptional means, etc. So in my opinion to help improve the correlation between crime rates, arrest rates and clearance rates, is to get all the facts straight. Do not jump from one to the other. Gather all the information that you can, and see what is going on, get cases closed or any old cases if they were closed because in significant evidence see if there is anything that you can do to change the out com e and re-open the close case to get it closed the right way and find out what really happened. http://en. allexperts. com/q/Criminal-Law-916/2010/10/crime-rates. htm

Teaching the English Language

Teaching the English Language Language is important in every culture. It enables people to understand each other and to trace their roots. However, we live in the world where almost everything is uniting into a shared understanding of each other. It would then be possible to relate with each other. That is why a common language like English is crucial. Although at some point it causes other people to feel that their tradition and values are not essential.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Teaching the English Language specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Teaching Standard English in schools is a daunting task. It even becomes more difficult especially when the students are not from native English speaking countries. Some may have been born in those countries but have their native languages. Reading and writing is one way of ensuring that the skill of communication is necessary to the students. Linda Christensen is one teacher who regrets why the Englis h teacher, Mrs. Delaney, made her look inferior just because she could not pronounce certain words correctly. She feels that educators should not force certain pronunciations on students because their mother tongue affects them. Instead, they should try to help students use substitutes for some words. She discovered that at least there were substitutes for every English word. It is important also to note that language defines and classifies an individual. The social norms dictate where someone belongs when they speak and how they pronounce the words. People have come to understand that English is the language of the dominant people. As long as one can speak well and be able to use the words carefully they become recognized in the society irrespective of their origin. Other people believe that it is not good to discard one’s traditional beliefs about foreign values. The Spanish-speaking people and the African Americans are among those who think that it is wrong to judge them b y how they speak the English language. In fact, the African Americans want their Ebonics to receive accolades as much as the English language does. Another aspect of teaching is that it has dwelt so much on the readings without examining the social and historical framework. It is important to include critical literacy that explores the same. It is a state of asking questions to find the reasons as to why, how, when, and what makes them. The students need to look at themselves as they compare with the larger society. Learning is a process that must always include the learner.Advertising Looking for essay on education? Let's see if we can help you! It builds on the fact that there is no one way of gaining literacy. People can make mistakes and still get it righ t at the end of the day. One must understand the learner and be creative about ensuring that he or she gains from the teaching. The artifact and the writings have something in common. They help to give some history of the English language and why it is important to learn it. They also provide avenues for mistakes. It is not important to judge the students and intimidate them because they could not pronounce a particular word correctly. They give a sober appeal to all learners to appreciate themselves by learning the language. The students also need to relate to their individual environments when trying to write and speak the language. It helps them to find the real meaning of their lessons. When they write about their mistakes, they find easier ways of solving some of them and even learning from each other. In some instances as they read aloud, they make others also become part of their story. At one point, some students cried in class when they heard how their colleague was struggl ing to survive in a difficult situation. There is also the tendency of using the paramount persons in the society as good examples in the impartation of knowledge. The people are mostly from high social classes and or might have served in the public sector. It is up to the teacher to remind the students that even in their small world there are heroes to celebrate, including their improvements. Such things help learners to acknowledge the process and believe in themselves. The writings are crucial. They have made me have a different perspective on learning. It is important to understand the students one has in class. It is also reasonable to relate with them so that all of us can go through the learning process with fewer difficulties. When teaching, I have learned that history is part of the learning. In as much as the lessons may be very particular and strict about the syllabus, one needs to focus on the surroundings as well. The readings and discussions help to solve particular problems. Classes must not just become rigid curricular regulations. They are also social places where people can share, analyze and become part of a solution. Students must learn to deal with their fears because it interferes with their learning. It is also important to discover that there are standards in the education. Those standards must also resonate with the learners. Critical writing would be crucial for my anticipated future. They would guide and shape my new understanding of things. I would become less judgmental and more accommodative to my students. The students under my care would turn out to be the best students who would learn appreciative skills from me. I would use this for community and team building for students who could not relate well to each other to find new ways of association. I would also become more confident about my work as a teacher. It should be all about making positive progress. The readings have opened up my inner understanding. I would have just remained the way I was before my readings. I would also have imparted the same knowledge and skills that my teacher and society taught me. But I have now known that history is part of my students and my work. I always have to feel the urge to keep making others believe in themselves. I have learned through mistakes and would not like others to go through the same mistakes. The Geopolitical and Strategic Importance of the Persian Gulf In Essay - 1

The Geopolitical and Strategic Importance of the Persian Gulf In Relation To Contemporary International Affairs in the Region - Essay Example However, the growth of this reason has resulted in both positive and negative effects. Negative impacts can clearly depict the several conflicts affecting the region that is frequently ignited by outside power (Nyrop, 2008). The August 2, 1990, Iraq invasion of Kuwait, is an example of such wars. The US intervened arguing that it was liberating Kuwait from Saddam Hussein. The U.S. sought convinced about 35 nations to support the move to liberate Kuwait through military action. The Persian Gulf War led to an increased rivalry between countries in the region. The conflicts are often ignited by the fight for a resource such as water and resources such as oil. The frequent conflict has become of great concern in the international affairs (Ungerman, 2000; Darvishi & Javilvand, 2010). The Persian Gulf is of great geopolitical and strategic importance due to its role in supplying most of the world’s resources. Natural resources such as water and energy are increasingly becoming scarce. Therefore regions such as the Persian Gulf, which supplies most of the energy to the world due to its great oil and gas resources are expected to continue being of great importance to the international affairs. Therefore, the Persian region is expected to continue being politically important due to its great role as an energy supplier. Moreover, the fight for energy is responsible for most of the past conflicts over energy (Darvishi & Javilvand, 2010; Ungerman, 2000) Therefore, the region is expected to continue being significant in the international affairs since tension is expected to continue growing since the energy requirement across the globe is increasing and countries such as China are expected to require about 5 million barrels per day b 2015. Since the oil will be derived from the region, Asian countries are likely to be characterized by increased interstate conflicts and weapon proliferation.

Hero and saint conversion Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Hero and saint conversion - Essay Example Although Hercules/Heracles was a son of a god, he was born to a mortal woman, making him a mortal as well, not exempted from the difficulties every human being meets. And this would be the very essence that integrates the Roman and Greek heroes to the making of the modern hero or saint. Paul of Tarsus for instance, though he was not a layman but formerly a Roman officer, being a Roman citizen with Jewish decent and having the power to execute the law under his command did not enjoy all his lifetime as one could imagine a person in authority. Instead, after his encounter with Jesus through a vision on his way to Damascus to persecute the early Christians, he suffered similar persecutions that he did to the disciples when he was still a Roman soldier. He encountered not only trials and miracles in escaping death from his fellow human beings but also from natural calamities. An example of which would be his survival from a shipwreck along with his fellow prisoners and the soldiers guard ing them when they were sent to Italy. Due to the storm, they landed in Malta instead and this is where another miracle happened to Paul when he was bitten by a poisonous snake from the fire they made which he simply shook off from his hand.

Country Comparison and Evaluation of Disability Policies

Country Comparison and Evaluation of Disability Policies Aging and Disability YUEKUN LIU 4.1 (1) International policies on disability from China and American, and comparison between these policies and the policies that operate in New Zealand. China and the United States of America are among the nations in the world that have established policies and laws governing the conduct of the people and that of the sitting governments about the treatments given to people with disability. China, by the year 2006, had up about 83 million men and women (approximately 6.3 percent of the Chinese population) being categorized as disabled persons (National Bureau of Statistics, 2007). Moreover, Americans have an increase in the number of people being afflicted with different kinds of disabilities. Coupled with fair and humane treatment through democratic ruling that has been persistent in the US, Americans have focused on ensuring the comfort of the US citizens , regardless of their physical and or mental orientations. The two nations have put forth various laws to govern the operations of the society. Firstly, the Chinese government through an act of parliament established by the China Disabled Persons’ Confederation (CDPF) in 1988. This is an independent unit in the region with the responsibility of looking into the welfare for the disabled persons in China. Having complete access to every corner of the nation with over 400,000 part time and 90, 000 full time workers by the year 2006, the confederation has been able to provide all the necessary support to the disabled persons in the nation. For this consideration, the confederation is mandated to carry out the following functions (Whakanui, 2000). The CDPF performs three functions: Represent interests of people with disabilities in China and help disabled people protect their legitimate rights; Provide comprehensive and effective services to disabled people; Commissioned by the Chinese government to supervise affairs relating to people with disabilities in China. In this regard, the CDPF is committed to promoting the humanitarianism, the human rights of people with disabilities, and the integration of people with disabilities in all aspects (Whakanui, 2000). Likewise to the Chinese steps in empowering people with disability in their societies, on the other hands, the United States has ratified the regulations and conventions protecting the rights of people with disability in different sections of the community. This has been done through the ADA (the American Disability Act) in1990 (Daly Burkhauser, 2005). The act aims at protecting people with disability against discrimination in their places of work as well as in the society. Despite that, the act gives these individuals the opportunity to explore employment in various organizations in this country as well as the right to secure employment opportunity in such organizations. In addition, the Chinese constitution has been amended to include the rights of individuals with various disabilities in various parts of the country. As in America and New Zealand, the Chinese constitution accords all persons with disability the right to attain rehabilitation support from specialists in various fields of expertise such mental therapists, etc. without any form of discrimination of the tasks. Other rights accorded to the people with disability, including the right to attain education at all levels and the right to be employed in the nation. They could be employed if they meet the required academic and ethical qualifications required by such organizations, rights on cultural lifestyles, welfare, access and legal liability. In regard to this, the three countries have ratified the International Labor Organization Convention No.159 in the constitution in order to help support the lives of those living with disability of various kinds(Autor Duggan, 2001). The law is advocating for the access to vocational training and employment to disabled people. Moreover, they have ratified the United Nations Convention on the rights of people with disability with the Chinese parliamentary ratifying the same in the year of 2008. This is aimed at enabling people with disability secure, retain and advance their careers in their suitable employments areas (Autor Duggan, 2001). New Zealand, through the ministry of disability issues, has made a plan to help disabled people access the rights and privileges accorded to those without the same traits alike. According to this, the ministry has put in place incorporative and collaborative objectives to aid for assisting these people by the complete database on the issues which is affecting the disabled persons at different levels. These policies focus on strengthening the rights of the disabled people about their education and employment opportunities in various organizations within the nation. In addition, the New Zealand government has advocated for empowerment the disabled people in the society by appointing them and or electing them to leadership positions in various organizations and government bodies. This is aimed at creating the relevant leadership priorities to the people and promoting their social affairs at all levels. However, the way these governments operate about handling disability issues is different. In America, the government has gone a bit further in designing an insurance policy for the disabled people. Moreover, the New Zealand government is the only government among the three nations where a special ministry is being recognized by the state for addressing issues on disability in the nation. Both China and America governments conduct this through the inaction of laws, conventions and regulations to help empower the disabled. Consequently, all the three nations have a common point for various factors regarding the care for the disabled people in the whole society. 4.1 (2) International policies on aging from China and American, and comparison between these policies and the policies that operate in New Zealand. The aged people are considered as the disabled in most societies around the world, including the three nationsUSA, China and New Zealand. These nations have established certain policies to help sustain people with aging lives at certain age who are unable to take care of themselves properly. The definition of the aged people around the world are various with different connotations in different societies. This definition of aging differs from one society to another. It is determined by the nations’ life expectation. In America, the definition of aging is considered as those individuals who are 65 year old and over (DeLeire, 2000). Aging is a significant for people in our lives because the elderly is the group of individuals who are weak and frail. The American constitution has made several provisions to provide adequate care assistances to the aged people in the US. For instance, the US government has planed and provided pension to the elderly in the whole nation. In addition, the aged people are often afflicted by diseases and poverty. Some Americans are even unable to sustain themselves within the society. The American government has drawn a plan to provide them with adequate financial supports for sustaining such individuals’ lives. The US government has helped them access free medical cares as well as social cares in all states. Compare this strategy to the Chinese government; the Chinese government has drawn a pension plan for the aged people living in urban areas as well as those in the rural areas. These people could receive monthly payments that might help them cater for most of their needs since most of them have not had any form of employment due to their senior ages. In New Zealand, the similar provisions have been drawn in the New Zealand through the ministry of senior persons. The ministry advocates for the protection of the rights of the aged population, including the right to be treated respectfully and honor, as well as continue learning and developing their skills and talents (Greg et al., 2010). Furthermore, since the government establish the strategies of increasing the income for the older people from social security funds, free Medicare provisions. Some extremely aged individuals are usually exempted from paying tax on certain commodities and services because these people rely only on their meager income sources. Consequently, there are some differences in policy administrations between these three nations with regards to the provision of care to the people with aging in the society. Firstly, while the New Zealand government has formed a complete system to oversee the provision of the adequate cares to the aged in the nation, the other two countries has not had such plans in their nations. Moreover, the exemption of taxes on certain commodities purchased by the aging generation is a reserve to America. The rest of the nations are lacking of this kind of provisions. Furthermore, the New Zealand government through the ministry of senior persons has come up with the regulations on the ways of conducting the operations of the care giving to the aged group of people. Community based groups have been formed at the lower levels. The groups are designed to help the aged at the basic levels. However, China and America are lack of that kind of groups. 4.2 (1) International service delivery policies on disability from China and American, and comparison between these policies and the policies that operate in New Zealand. The disable people in China, America and New Zealand are entitled to the provision of adequate services. The disabled persons are entitled to employment opportunities in organizations and companies around the three nations as long as they meet the academic and ethical qualifications required by the companies in which they are applying to work. Through the enactment of various policies and conventional Acts or an Act of parliament, the three nations have been able to provide adequate frameworks on service delivery models to the people with disability within the nations. In this situation, the government of New Zealand accords old person in the country the right to access disability services which are deemed responsive, flexible, accessible as well as culturally appropriate. These services must be focused on the inclusion and empowerment of the individuals with impairments and their families (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2010). Additionally, the Chinese government has elaborated the needs to provide the disabled with adequate opportunities to the employment and training services. The services are called upon at any instance depending on the needs arising from the same. The services of the disabled are called upon at every instance including administrative positions, vocational arts and training (Ravallion Shaohua, 2004). The United States has embarked on expanding their business and industrial circles in order to create space for the disabled and impaired within the US. This is expected to create employment opportunities to a great deal of people including. The US government has encouraged the disabled people to continue applying and seeking jobs and services in the incorporations of the circle without feeling fear of exclusion or denial. Moreover, the similar policies have been enacted in the Chinese rapidly growing labor force and job market. However, well structured programs have been facilitated in New Zealand as opposed to the other two nations. The New Zealand government is acting on the basis of their internal fundamentals which are organized from within the nation. Therefore, various laws have been developed from within the country to reach the disabled at the grass root. China and the US, however, operate their disability laws in line with the provisions of the world health organizations or other humanitarian agencies in the world. In addition, the public forums and affairs is more elaborate in new Zealand as compared to the other two countries since the New Zealand government is directly involved in the management and protection of the affairs of the disabled. A research shows that there is a proper channel here through that the disabled people can complain to the central government for effective address (Wang, D Zhang, K, 2005). This is different from the cases in China and the US where the affairs of the disabled persons are tackled by the governments through the humanitarian agencies. 4.2 (2) International service delivery policies on aging from China and American, and comparison between these policies and the policies that operate in New Zealand. It is considered that wide knowledge and experiences on various affairs in aging are given for solving various factors affecting the community and or the nations within the three countries. For example, open consultation is one of the factors considered by the new Zealand constitution through the aged. It is required to engage in open consultative forums with the members of the society and various experts’ idea. This is considered as an important point in exploiting the huge amount of knowledge. Furthermore, there are various opportunities available for them in China, USA and New Zealand to serve in various areas. In America, the aging services are often called upon on various issues such as wars, peace talks and negotiations. This owes to their amount of knowledge and various aspects of the society as well as the developmental issues within the nation. The US policy frameworks require that the old and experienced military officials are be able to engage on various matters which are affecting the country with the aim of offering skilled knowledge to the young labor force (Daly Burkhauser, 2003). In addition, the same provisions have been done by the government of New Zealand. In China, the aging people are encouraged to take part in social matters as well as providing vocational training to the young members of the society through apprentice training. However, this is different from the other two countries. The American policies, similar to those in New Zealand, tend to focus much on the provision of skills and knowledge based on wars and other military actions. The Chinese policies concentrate much on the social sectors through the aged and retired members of the community. They are encouraged to offer apprentice services to the younger generations. Despite that, these groups of Chinese people are more of a social resource storage rather than technical advisers in New Zealand and America. 4.3 Outline accords with recommended texts. The Chinese constitution accords all persons with disability the right to attain rehabilitation support from specialists in various fields of expertise such mental therapists, etc. without any form of discrimination of the tasks. New Zealand, through the ministry of disability issues, has made a plan to help disabled people access the rights and privileges accorded to those without the same traits alike The government of New Zealand accords old person in the country the right to access disability services which are deemed responsive, flexible, accessible as well as culturally appropriate.

King of Kings :: social issues

King of Kings Even though the people of Israel were under the leadership of the almighty God, they were not pleased. They wanted a human king, someone fallible and imperfect to lead them. Even then, God was forgiving and appointed a human king over them. As I intend to prove, kingship was not a good thing for the nation of Israel because kings were corrupt and sinful. They imposed harsh labors and laws on the people who followed them. But most importantly, by having a king, they were turning their backs on God. There were a few benefits that came from having a king, but these proved to be an illusion. Many will argue that a king was good for Israel. Proponents for a king argue that kings brought political stability to the country. By imposing taxes and labors, they argue that the economic stability of the country was established. A king would unite all the tribes of Israel into a single country under his leadership. A human king was someone whom all the people could approach and talk to, whereas God only appeared to a select few people. While David was king over Israel, the kingdom reached its peak in territory and conquests. He captured the strongholds of Zion and Jerusalem; 2 cities which held great importance to the people of Israel. Solomon, with the knowledge God gave him, was perhaps the wisest man of his time. He was a great arbiter of justice and the depths of his knowledge amazed all who came to seek his counsel. A king was also the leader of the army and would lead his troops into battle. Even though these were beneficial aspects of having a king, they did not overcome the negative aspects of kingship. I will argue that having a king was bad for the nation of Israel. I will refute the arguments that supporters of a king. Even though the Israelites made many territorial conquests under the leadership of King David, these gains would only be temporary. They would later lose much of the lands they gained. David, though he was a good king, also sinned against God. He coveted another’s wife and indirectly had her husband killed. Even though Solomon was wise, all his wisdom could not prevent him from sinning against God. A king and his reign are not permanent. A good king may sit on the throne, but he will die, and the king who follows him may not be a good king at all.

Existentialism and Human Nature Essay

Absolute individuality and absolute freedom: the basis of all existentialist arguments. The existentialist’s conceptions arise from their held views that since we are all ultimately alone, we have absolute freedom over our nature. Existentialists emphasize the â€Å"free and conscious self† which opponents constantly attack, exclaiming that there is a â€Å"higher power† enabling our consciousness. But are humans so simple? Can things be explained solely on blaming ourselves or another being for our nature? The existentialist generally believes in a sole existence; meaning that we are alone in the world, and that we have no one but ourselves. They also believe in the human being’s capacity to feel more than one kind of pain, and that there are three different levels to our pain, physical, psychological, and emotional. All of these types of pain can cause us to become irrational and anxious. But are we really anxious because of this pain, or is it because we ultimately feel alone? And if we are all individuals, can we really feel the same kind of pain as someone else? Existence precedes essence is also dominant in the mind and thoughts of the existentialist. That is, the idea that we are born into this world without a predetermined nature, and only later in life do we shape out nature through actions and choices. This opposes the traditional view that is that essence precedes existence, according to which we are seen as having a purpose, and values, all of which is determined before birth. (I personally think that the idea of essence preceding existence is rather obscure. There is no way that our values and purpose can be determined by genetic code. DNA is what we are, not who we are.) Existentialists pose another question to the opposition: how can we be happy in a world devoid of significance and meaning? The loss of external values allows us to derive value from within ourselves. This value is greater than any imposed by outside forces, and thus cannot be taken away from said sources. Although many human beings live a life devoid of true happiness, it does not mean that we are incapable of attaining such a goal. If a person finds the meaning for their life, whether it be one meaning, or many, there is a large chance that they can achieve such a utopia without recognizing outside influences. People of different viewpoints follow different methods, as well as believe in different forces that shape our nature. It is in my opinion, as well as that of the existentialist, that we shape our own nature through decisions and actions made by our own free will; that we are ultimately free to act independently from the influences of outside forces. That we can ultimately ignore the views imposed on us, and achieve a sustainable level of happiness in the process. Human nature is a frail thing; people are just looking for someone else to blame for their actions and for who they are, even when there isn’t any. Therefore, there is no one to blame for who we are, but ourselves.

An Overview of Game Theory in Sociology

An Overview of Game Theory in Sociology Game theory is a theory of social interaction, which attempts to explain the interaction people have with one another. As the name of the theory suggests, game theory sees human interaction as just that: a game. John Nash, the mathematician who was featured in the movie A Beautiful Mind is one of the inventors of game theory along with mathematician John von Neumann. How Was Game Theory Developed? Game theory was originally an economic and mathematical theory that predicted that human interaction had the characteristics of a game, including strategies, winners and losers, rewards and punishment, and profits and cost. It was initially developed to understand a large variety of economic behaviors, including behavior of firms, markets, and consumers. The use of the game theory has since expanded in the social sciences and has been applied to political, sociological, and psychological behaviors as well. Game theory was first used to describe and model how human populations behave. Some scholars believe that they can actually predict how actual human populations will behave when confronted with situations analogous to the game being studied. This particular view of game theory has been criticized because the assumptions made by the game theorists are often violated. For example, they assume that players always act in a way to directly maximize their wins, when in reality this is not always true. Altruistic and philanthropic behavior would not fit this model. Example of Game Theory We can use the interaction of asking someone out for a date as a simple example of game theory and how there are game-like aspects involved. If you are asking someone out on a date, you will probably have some kind of strategy to â€Å"win† (having the other person agree to go out with you) and â€Å"get rewarded† (have a good time) at a minimal â€Å"cost† to you (you don’t want to spend a large amount of money on the date or do not want to have an unpleasant interaction on the date). Elements of a Game There are three main elements of a game: The playersThe strategies of each playerThe consequences (payoffs) for each player for every possible profile of strategy choices of all players Types of Games There are several different kinds of games that are studies using game theory: Zero-sum game: The players’ interests are in direct conflict with one another. For example, in football, one team wins and the other team loses. If a win equals 1 and a loss equals -1, the sum is zero.Non-zero sum game: The players’ interests are not always in direct conflict, so that there are opportunities for both to gain. For example, when both players choose â€Å"don’t confess† in Prisoner’s Dilemma (see below).Simultaneous move games: Players choose actions simultaneously. For example, in the Prisoner’s Dilemma (see below), each player must anticipate what their opponent is doing at that moment, recognizing that the opponent is doing the same.Sequential move games: Players choose their actions in a particular sequence. For example, in chess or in bargaining/negotiating situations, the player must look ahead in order to know what action to choose now.One-shot games: The play of the game occurs only once. Here, the players are likely to not know much about each other. For example, tipping a waiter on your vacation. Repeated games: The play of the game is repeated with the same players. Prisoner’s Dilemma The prisoner’s dilemma is one of the most popular games studied in game theory that has been portrayed in countless movies and crime television shows. The prisoner’s dilemma shows why two individuals might not agree, even if it appears that it is best to agree. In this scenario, two partners in crime are separated into separate rooms at the police station and given a similar deal. If one testifies against his partner and the partner stays quiet, the betrayer goes free and the partner receives the full sentence (ex: ten years). If both remain silent, both are sentences for a short time in jail (ex: one year) or for a minor charge. If each testifies against the other, each receives a moderate sentence (ex: three years). Each prisoner must choose to either betray or remain silent, and the decision of each is kept from the other. The prisoner’s dilemma can be applied to many other social situations, too, from political science to law to psychology to advertising. Take, for example, the issue of women wearing make-up. Each day across America, several million woman-hours are devoted to an activity with questionable benefit for society. Foregoing makeup would free up fifteen to thirty minutes for each woman every morning. However, if no one wore makeup, there would be great temptation for any one woman to gain an advantage over others by breaking the norm and using mascara, blush, and concealer to hide imperfections and enhance her natural beauty. Once a critical mass wears makeup, the average facade of female beauty is artificially made greater. Not wearing makeup means foregoing the artificial enhancement to beauty. Your beauty relative to what is perceived as average would decrease. Most women therefore wear makeup and what we end up with is a situation that is not ideal for the whole or for the indivi duals, but is based on rational choices by each individual. Assumptions Game Theorists Make The payoffs are known and fixed. All players behave rationally. The rules of the game are common knowledge. Resources and Further Reading Duffy, J. Eve and City High essays

Eve and City High essays On November 1, 2002 Loyola Marymount held its annual sunset concert in Gersten Pavilion. This years performers included two hip-hop acts, City High and Eve. The performers for this year were up in the air for much of the month and the organizers were tossing back and forth ideas with the school, the school subsequently denied most requests...surprise huh? The two acts did a fantastic job and had two common threads between them. The first is that they have recorded a hit song together but the second and most outstanding characteristic is that their music sends a positive message. I have seen both of these acts on tour once before in a much more upscale show and enjoyed them very much. Eve had a large stage to work with, an entourage, lights, pyrotechnics and an enormous crowd. The show in Gersten was still what I had expected, amazing. She was energetic, enthusiastic to be at our small school and impressed with the fans. She had and an amazing energy that got the crowd up dancing and singing along with her. When she put her hands in the air hundreds of kids followed her lead. She sang numerous songs off of her first album entitled First lady of Ruff Ryders and her second album entitled Scorpions. The songs performed Love is Blind, What Ya Want Remix, Scenario 2000, My Bitches, Got What You Need, Let Me Blow Your Mind, Gangsta Bitches, Cowboy Scream Double R and Whos That Girl. On stage she presented her self as an intelligent African American women with pride and poise. Her style is very unique combining the roughneck attitude of MC Lyte, Queen Latifah and Da Brat and the streetwise sensuality of Salt-n-Pepa. With a combination like this and women is bound to be great. I was unable to find her influences but she proved herself to be a strong, stylistic, woman rapper with power and attitude. Her persona on stage is very real and inviting. Though Eve was the main act to play on Friday night I ...

Importance of Emotions for Children Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Importance of Emotions for Children - Assignment Example Most of the people whom I crossed paths with were not smiling at the start of our encounter. They mostly seemed deep in thought and in a hurry to get their kids into school so they could go on with their day. However, when I took the time to smile at them as we passed each other, most of them smiled back at me. They seemed puzzled by my smile and, since I was smiling even at the parents whom I did not know personally, I bet some of them were wondering where we had met before. I would like to think that by smiling at them at the start of their workday, I was able to bring a little brightness into their lives and perhaps influenced them into going about their day in a more positive manner than they started out. On my part, I have to say that I felt very lighthearted and welcoming of the people whom I smiled at. A simple smile on my part was enough to bring a sense of positivism to my day and helped me get through my day without ever feeling cross. That is because each time I would begin to feel weary or irritated, all I had to do was think of the parents whom I exchanged smiles with earlier in the day and everything negative that I felt seemed to melt away. My show of choice for this particular study of nonverbal communication and body gestures was Full House starring Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, Candace Cameron (Burke), Jodi Sweetin, Lori Loughlin, John Stamos, and Bob Saget. I felt that this show would be perfect for this exercise because the show was part of a genre that everyone enjoyed and could easily be understood even with the sound on the television or laptop turned off, comedy. It turns out that I did not make a mistake with my choice of television shows. What I learned from the show is that the human face can deliver emotions even better than the voice of a person. By simply watching the facial expression on the characters faces, I was able to tell if the scene being played out was lighthearted or serious.

Awareness of Identity Theft among Mature Students Essay

Awareness of Identity Theft among Mature Students - Essay Example They can then max out credit cards or take out loans using information they could have asked you for, taken from documents, or stolen from transactions online. This can lead to horrible problems for the person's identity whose is stole, as it can be a tedious task to try to track down the person who is pretending to be you. As student based marketing and research expands, so do the opportunities for people to steal all kinds of information from students who may not even know they are being tricked. Cases are especially springing up among college students, who fill out loads of paperwork and are also on their feet for the first time in their lives. The problem of identity theft is getting so bad that the "The United States Federal Trade Commission says that identity theft is America's largest consumer complaint" (http://www.scambusters.org/identitytheft/collegestudentsguide.html. These college students offer a prime target for the identity theft schemes. Students who are looking for loans, new credit cards, or are simply unaware of how to protect their personal information make for an easy candidate to get their identity stolen. Students also often do not know that identity theft can affect "your credit rating, criminal record, future borrowing possibilities, as well as your job opportunities (http://www.scambusters.org/identitytheft/collegestudentsguide.html). Using cell phones to talk about things that might be useful for an identity thief to hear."( http://www.scambusters.org/identitytheft/collegestudentsguide.html. All of these seemingly innocent acts however leave students wide open for an invasion of privacy which may lead to the theft of their identity. This is why students are targeted by criminal organizations as prime targets for their schemes to steal people's identities. Greed in The Rocking Horse Winner :: Rocking Horse Winner

Greed in The Rocking Horse Winner  Ã‚     People need money to live, and enough to buy the basic goods one needs to survive, but everybody wants more money. More money means an easier life. The more money one has, the more money one wants, as is shown in the story, "The Rocking Horse Winner" by D. H. Lawrence. At the beginning of this story the family did not have enough money to support their opulent lifestyle. Mr. Lawrence illustrates their situation like this: "Although they lived in style they felt always an anxiety in the house. There was never enough money." (p. 159) The family scrambles to pay the bills at the end of the month. An unspoken phrase "Whispered" throughout the house, "There must be more money! There must be more money!" (p.160) the whispering said. Even though the family had money, they wanted, they needed, more. Paul, the child, knew that his family wanted money, and he knew that he was lucky, betting on the horses. Paul became partners with the gardener. He picked the horse, and the gardener placed the bet. Paul had started out with five shillings but his winnings kept adding up. When he had made 10,000 pounds he decided to give his mother 1000 pounds a year for five years. He wanted his winnings to be a secret so a lawyer handled the money. Paul saw the envelope from the lawyer and asked his mother if she had received anything good in the mail. She said "Quite moderately nice" (p. 168) in a cold voice. She liked getting the money, but she wasn't happy. She wanted more. The same day, she had a meeting with the lawyer who was handling the money. Paul's mother demanded the full sum. She received the money and spent it all. The author informs the reader, "There were certain new furnishings, and Paul had a tutor... There were flowers in the winter, and a blossoming of the luxury that Paul's mother had been used to." (p. 169) The money ran out and the voices in the house screamed, "Oh-h-h, there must be more money.

War on Drugs Essays -- Illegal Drugs Narcotics essays research papers

Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Throughout history drugs have been nothing but a social problem, a burden per say. From Edgar Allen Poe smoking opium in an attempt to make his poetry more creative, to Vietnam soldiers coming back from the war addicted to heroin. Narcotics was not a serious issue at the time, only a small hand full of people were actually doing the drugs, and they were just simply looked down upon. It was not until the late nineteen sixties when recreational drug use became fashionable among young, white, middle class American citizens, that the United States Government â€Å"put it’s foot down†. (pbs.com) They started slowly ,developing agencies like the (BNDD) Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs, which was founded in 1968 by the Linden Johnson administration. Congress also started passing laws like the Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act in 1970.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  It was not until June 17, 1971 when the war on drugs truly began. At a press conference in the White House, President Richard J. Nixon officially declared war on drugs. He stated, â€Å"drug abuse is public enemy, number one in the United States.† He also announced the creation of (SAODAP) Special Action Office for Drug Abuse Prevention. Three years later on August 9, 1974, President Nixon resigns, but not before founding one the greatest assets for the war on drugs, the (DEA) Drug Enforcement Agency. Established in July of 1973, this â€Å"super agency† (pbs.com) consisted of agents from the CIA, Customs and ODALE. This agency was designed to handle all aspects of the drug problem in America and would be headed Myles Ambrose.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Throughout the first years of the program the DEA was established their main focus was to stop the flow of marijuana from Mexico to America. Around the mid seventies the â€Å"enemy† face began to change, the enemy was now cocaine and it was coming from the country of Colombia. On November 22, 1975 the Colombian police seized over 600 kilos of cocaine from a small plane at the Cali Airport. The plane was believed to be headed to Miami, Florida. The amount of cocaine that was seized that day was the largest cocaine bust to date.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The DEA, along with other agencies, are still fighting cocaine and many other drugs to this day. One of the reasons the war on drugs is lasting so long is because of the cost; the war on drugs is a very expense war. In the past, the government has spent arou... ...m heroin addiction. Psychiatrist Dr. Robert DuPont is a pioneer doctor in drug abuse treatment, he perfumed studies in Washington D.C. in 1969 of heroin addicts, and then convinced the mayor to allow him to provide methadone to the heroin addicts this resulted in the city’s crime rate dropping.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚     Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The cost of addiction can be devastating to the person and the person’s family. People trade in their cars; clothing and shelter just to get a fix for their addiction. The cost of rehabilitation is outrageous, unless you are attending a free one it can cost up to 1000 dollars a weak.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  There are many programs out in the public today for soul purpose of keeping people clean, off drugs. Programs such as Betty Ford, D.A.R.E, and many more are set up to keep people from drug abuse.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   In the end the war on drugs is not a war to be won or lost, it’s with in the people, rather if they want to do drugs or not. The importation of illicit substances into the United States is an impossibility. There’s over 2,000 miles of border along the Mexican border and the coastal areas, thousands of miles; there is no possible way to stop the importation of drugs into this country.

Impact of Current Information Technology on Our Lives Essay

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT My deepest gratitude to my Ate Kristine and my parents who support and encourage me to pursue my chosen path, to concentrate to my studies, for all their kind and inspiring comments. My special thanks go to my grandma, who have given me great moral support in my studies and to our Almighty God, who have given me spiritual support to complete this term paper. I. INTRODUCTION Information technology (IT) ins probably one of the most significant developments in human history since the printing press. It has given rise to one of the most fascinating communications devices ever created, the Internet. It has come into our homes, our schools and our offices, tying us together in unprecedented ways. It is one of the most important developments in recent memory. Information technology (IT) is the acquisition, processing, storage and dissemination of vocal, pictorial, textual and numerical information by a microelectronics-based combination of computing and telecommunications. The term in its modern sense first appeared in a 1958 article published in the Harvard Business Review, in which authors Leavitt and Whisler commented that â€Å"the new technology does not yet have a single established name. We shall call it information technology (IT).†. Some of the modern and emerging  fields of Information technology are next generation web technologies, bioinformatics, cloud computing, global information systems, large scale knowledge bases, etc. A. GENERAL INFORMATION IT is the area of managing technology and spans wide variety of areas that include computer software, information systems, computer hardware, programming languages but are not limited to things such as processes, , and data constructs. In short, anything that renders data, information or perceived knowledge in any visual format whatsoever, via any multimedia distribution mechanism, is considered part of the IT domain. IT provides businesses with four sets of core services to help execute the business strategy: business process automation, providing information, connecting with customers, and productivity tools. IT professionals perform a variety of functions (IT Disciplines/Competencies) that ranges from installing applications to designing complex computer networks and information databases. A few of the duties that IT professionals perform may include data management, networking, engineering computer hardware, database and software design, as well as management and administration of entire systems. Information technology is starting to spread further than the conventional personal computer and network technologies, and more into integrations of other technologies such as the use of cell phones, televisions, automobiles, and more, which is increasing the demand for such jobs. In the recent past, the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology and the Association for Computing Machinery have collaborated to form accreditation and curriculum standards for degrees in Information Technology as a distinct field of study as compared to Computer Science and Information Systems today. SIGITE (Special Interest Group for IT Education) is the ACM working group for defining these standards. The Worldwide IT services revenue totaled $763 billion in 2009. B. TECHNOLOGICAL CAPACITY AND GROWTH Hilbert and Lopez identify the exponential pace of technological change (a kind of Moore’s law): machines’ application-specific capacity to compute information per capita has roughly doubled every 14 months between 1986-2007; the per capita capacity of the world’s general-purpose computers has doubled every 18 months during the same two decades; the global  telecommunication capacity per capita doubled every 34 months; the world’s storage capacity per capita required roughly 40 months to double (every 3 years); and per capita broadcast information has doubled roughly every 12.3 years II. TRENDS IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY The wide range of information, data, and knowledge for problem solving and decision making are dealt with Information Technology. Before starting with the projects, students should be aware of authentication, and integrity features in their projects. Breaking of passwords and hacking can be avoided using these techniques. Anyhow, the various trends for projects are based on the emerging software technology. A. LATEST TRENDS a. Flash technology To add multiple types of external data to the given text, images, video, XML and to interact with web pages, Adobe Flash is used. It provides multimedia platform. The main purpose of this technology is to be used in advertisements and games. Both audio and video streams are supported by flash. One of the Object-oriented languages called ActionScript is the language used here by the developers. Flash player includes ActionScript Virtual Machine (AVM). The compiler, Just-In-Time (JIT), is used for MP3-based audio and bitmap graphics. Flash CS5 is the latest version of Adobe flash which was released on April 12, 2010. b. Microsoft Silverlight Microsoft Silverlight is developed on web framework and is similar to the functions of those in Adobe Flash. In addition, it also integrates multimedia graphics and interaction with a single runtime environment. Common Language Infrastructure (CLI) and its development tools are supported by Silverlight. The processor x86 with streaming SIMD Extensions (SSE) is  used by Silverlight. Also the other processors which support Silverlight include the Intel Pentium III and AMD Athlon XP. Any of the .Net Programming language is supported for Silverlight applications. The developing tools for the application can be used along with the .Net language but should be aware that they can target only the Silverlight core CLR for hosting the applications and not that of the .Net Framework CLR since both differs in their own functionalities. 4GDR1 (4.0.50524.0) is the latest version of Silverlight and was released on 03 June 2010. c. Open Source software Open source software is newly emerging trend which is one of the best options for the students. The source code can be modified by the students as per the objective of project. Hence Open source is much flexible than closed version software. Open source software is mainly developed on peer to peer production by collaboration of end product, source material. Open source software can be enhanced by anyone and if you join some open source developers community, you can learn a lot of things directly from the most knowledged persons in the developers community. Even the top companies like Google who are paymasters gives lots of importance to candidates who have worked in open source projects during the interviews. d. Cryptography Cryptography is the practice and study of hiding information. It also refers to confidentiality. It is often seen as a â€Å"black art†, which means something others don’t understand but you need to understand. Cryptography is one of the essential aspects for secure communication. There are many aspects of security and applications ranging from secure commerce to private communication and to protect passwords. Cryptography is necessary for secure communication but it is not sufficient by itself. Here, the text is encrypted first; i.e. the plain text is changed to inarticulate garbage. The end user does the reverse process i.e. decryption, where the original text  is retrieved. There are a lot of algorithms in this area which is used in real time for data protection in sectors like banks, Research, Password Protection and so on. e. Nanotechnology Nanotechnology is the study of controlling properties of an atom and molecules. As the name indicates, it deals with the study of structures sized between 1 and 100 nanometer. It is said that, nanotechnology has a tendency to create new materials and devices which can be used in future in a wide range of fields such as medicine, energy production, electronics and bio materials. As they are very small in size, nano structures have a tendency to change its state for transformation of energy. The two main approaches used in nanotechnology are Bottom-up and Top-down. In bottom-up approach, materials and devices are built from molecular, a component which later assemble themselves chemically and follows the principles of molecular recognition. In top-down approach, nano-objects are constructed from larger entities without any atomic level control. Biotechnology is the best example to show the use of nanotechnology in various fields. The upcoming trends mainly focus on security and hacking. Mobile application for iPhone and Android are great areas to explore with good revenue opportunities as well. If you want to stand out from others, instead of going for some courses, try to contribute for an open source project. B. BUSINESS TRENDS Just a few decades ago, businesses had little in the way of office machinery except typewriters. Fax machines were new; only Xerox made copiers, and the computer was a monster that took up an entire room. These behemoths were housed almost exclusively on college campuses or in government laboratories. With the development of the personal computer, the situation changed; it was so quick it sometimes seems like it was overnight. At first, businesses were happy to use computers because their word processing programs made typing projects much easier. But using a computer like a high-powered typewriter  defeats the purpose of having the machine in the first place. Companies soon discovered that their PCs could do a great deal more. Companies began to network offices together so that they could share files and work on the same projects from distant locations. They connected to the Internet and put out advertisements to draw new customers. And perhaps one of the most significant business developments to come with IT is the creation of the electronic marketplace. Companies that sell their products over the Internet greatly increase the number of potential consumers who see their offerings. Even if the company is not actively selling goods, a website is a tremendously helpful tool. A well-designed, easy to navigate site can stimulate interest so that a potential customer calls or writes for further information. Other business applications of IT include â€Å"data mining,† â€Å"knowledge management,† and â€Å"modeling and simulation.† (Kalil, PG). This last is particularly interesting, as it allows companies to build prototypes in the computer. These prototypes perform exactly the same way a three-dimensional model would, and yet are far less expensive than building the â€Å"real thing.† This way, if the prototype doesn’t work, there isn’t the strain on the company’s resources there would be if a real model (car, plane, truck, train) had been built. If it does work, it can be put into production quickly. C. FUTURE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY TRENDS There’s no denying that we are in a worldwide downturn. Government are in debt; jobs are being cut; houses are being repossessed and people because it. However, there is a way to plan for the declining eminent and that is through IT guidance. If you are like most people, the last thing on your opinion is paying for tuition, especially in a specialty as baffling as information technology. However, IT education may be your label out of the slump and into a fulfilling and stable career. For most of us, our prospect is not set in pelt, especially with the downturn. There is no concrete way of aware that you will forever be in the site, or even with the visitors you are with now. However, IT guidance can organize for a potential in information technology at any sector. The  diligence needs IT technicians whether you work in television, marketing, communication, client check, etc. IT technology can open doors to more than just your own effective Future Information Technology Trends environment. You can take these skills and concern them to other sectors and industries as well. This will make the leap to another career in the upcoming much fewer overwhelming, if that time ever comes. Technology and Telecommunication: While many people are trailing their jobs in marketing, buyer ceremony, factual estate and construction, more and more people are verdict their mission via telecommunication. This is because, while the nation is gradually lessening, the â€Å"nation† is blossoming. Websites are in stable penury to IT help including webmasters, graphic designers and programmers. This Future Information Technology Trends trend will prolong as the internet is one of the best customs to join to the world and will only maintain to grow in the future. Technological trends in the future: According to the Bureau of Labour Statistics, the technology world will maintain to upsurge with jobs in IT increasing by 16% in the next ten existence. This is sooner than most other industries in the United States due to the many technological advances within many industries. IT Training for all Industries: even if you never want to dine in a career as an IT technician, information technology exercise can help prepare you for advancement in your own sector. Information technology exists everywhere and this is why it’s important to advantage the skills desirable to understand the information technological phase of your sector. IT is Universal: Another important touch of information technology is that, while some systems modify from troupe to troupe, and from country to country, they are all relatively the same. This means that, if you desire to do so, you can move and convey with career guidance in IT. Spend a year in Japan since the sights and running in IT on the section, or take your skills to Australia when the frost months get too cold. The possibilities Future Information Technology Trends for those with information technology training not only transport from trade to industry, but they also outdo continental boundaries as well. D. EMERGING INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY TRENDS Traditionally, hotels were mostly dependant on cards and paperwork at the front desk to keep in meet with old and current customers. They were chiefly at the mercy of the wishes of vacationers to succeed, and on their own pains and force to be inclined for budding surges or long droughts of tenancy. Luckily, such inconvenience and old-fashioned methods are long since ancient, gratitude to advances in information technology. The first question in which information technology became important regarded billing. Old-fashioned paper-based book-keeping time-consuming and inefficient, and was not able briefly to tell a lodge holder what the avow of their lodge was. Luckily, advances in modern proof keeping tolerate for a lodge holder to keep pathway of what they have on hand, how much of it they have, and how much it outlay. Accounting is complicated, but future software, especially that tailored to the sole needs of the hospitality activity, helps to permit lodge owners to make smart decisions. Services and harvest that are no longer worn can be instantly cut off to prelude money, while those who show want can be augmented in magnitude or bespoke to diminish the important tradition. Most hotels are recurring with booking quarters and reservations over the telephone, but information technology has prolonged well past that. Hotels can now work with different online trek companies and booking military to have Emerging Information Technology Trends their rooms booked online, with no indigence to employ classy force. This also allows a lodge to announce their open rooms and unusual deals promptly to people who would be most to grasp them, instead of killing much money advertising in an unfocused mode. High worth information technology hence allows for better arrangement and management of booking to tolerate a lodge to better maximize residence, and to know in proceed when large groups or prop period are approaching. This allows a lodge manager to make strategy about transient pole, good times to renovate or inflate, or other concerns, because he/she can decide the state of their hotel currently and for the next few months with only a few clicks on the laptop. The advances in information Emerging Information Technology Trends technology proffer well afar booking, however. The internet is  necessary for vacationers who fancy to associate those back home, and for those nomadic on topic to get in feel with the bureau. Therefore, wireless internet has become a very ordinary and very helpful tune for hotels to supply. Many interest minded persons even entail that an hotel tender internet army so that they can keep running while on the street. Luckily, such army are easy to supply, as all that is required is a wireless router and diverse plans to guarantee the whole hotel is filled with the practice. Modern advances in wireless internet also permit for the wireless internet provided for hotel visitors to be used to group the hotel itself. Security cameras, door stresses, and other policy basic to hotel sanctuary and shelter can be Emerging Information Trends wired into the interact, so that workforce are alerted when a door is propped open, a fire alarm goes off or suspicious activity occurs. Though the hotel guests are wholly unaware of it, this variety of added safety and guarantee keeps them careful, and in the occasion of a puzzle they will almost surely appreciate the benefits of such system. As difficult as it is, information technology in the hospitality activity is still going ahead. Intelligent booking systems enable hasty and helpful guest opinion, along with the ability to predict who is likely to use the hotel again and tell them via e-packages or passage letters when a good deals appear. Hotels with scope mass or other guest services can tender menus online, allowing for abrupt updates, high-class photos, and other behavior to allow guests to see and order services before they even arrive. There also advances in terms of payroll and list which make information technology Emerging Information Technology Trends an effective asset for reduction money and maximizing profits. The sole quality of the hospitality trade makes it a great place for new and emerging information technology, and farther-opinion hotel owners and managers are forever looking for smart tools and software to invest in. E. HEALTHCARE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY TRENDS The utilization of technology in healthcare has opened the method for improvements in a limit of areas. One of the advantages and payback of fitness tending technology is the additional people are extant diseases like feeling and blight disease due to the fitness to identify them earlier than formerly skilled. With this ability comes the subsidy of being able to use a method that may be fewer extreme than one beloved as the disease grows. With a disease like Tuberculosis, as it metastasizes, the talent to struggle it and eliminate it gets harder and harder. Although, one more use of technology in healthcare has brought us newest drugs that can aim more precisely the particular scourge cells along with being more embattled in other areas. It has also brought us latest radiation Healthcare Information Technology Trends tools that can be far extra accurate and not have to use the shotgun manage to dig up to the tumor. The ray could even be bent about key body parts like glands and arteries so as not to injure them when focusing in that territory. One interesting and futuristic loan is the utilization of robots. You can now have a preset prostatectomy with an outcome that may be to the profit of the enduring. With the use of a robot in surgical procedure there is a slighter Healthcare Information Technology Trends opening and large incisions which is fewer torment for the tolerant, there is a smaller quantity of blood failure, an exclusive hazard of rigid cuts about delicate nerves and tendons which may allow the unwearied a pompous choice of not having poorer effects from the surgical procedure, and typically a shorter drape about in the hospice and a shorter recovery time. The accuracy of the robot is far more rigid than a surgeon using his/her hands lonesome. Robots are also programmed in such way that they can grip complicated situations. Another zone where robots are worn is in mandatory middle surgery. Again the accuracy and precision of the tools show the way to a bigger unplanned of a quicker recovery time and minus anguish to the patient. The finer incisions and the possibility of less blood harm are one advantage to using robots in a middle surgery. The dab Vinci Healthcare Information Technology Trends robot worn in the heart and growth surgeries and has the opportunity to be  worn in a range of areas where precision and accuracy are vital. III. EDUCATION Although computers are now common in the classroom that has not been the most significant step in their use as educational tools. I believe that distinction has to go to distance education. The concept is not all that new, because the idea of remote classrooms with a teacher appearing on television has been in place for decades. But the idea of conducting an entire class over the Internet is radically different. In distance education, the students may never set foot in a classroom at all. They will interact with the teacher and with their peers via email; they may participate in lectures via some sort of instant messaging service. The assignments are posted by the instructor, and the completed assignments are returned to him/her through email. Attending class by accessing the Internet does of course mean that the student cannot participate in a live exchange with his peers and the instructor, so in that sense the spontaneity of the classroom is missing. However, for students in very remote areas, or when classes are offered at one campus and not another, it is a viable solution, and it is made possible by IT. IV. PERSONAL USAGE Of course the single biggest item here is the personal computer. Having a computer at home has revolutionized life for millions of people around the globe. We tend to get our news from the computer; we may find ourselves in a discussion with someone on the other side of the planet; and we tour museums and shops in distant cities among many other uses. Many people now work from home (â€Å"telecommuting†) rather than physically going to the office. This saves road congestion and helps diminish pollution. Children and teens use the computer to help with their homework, and with the Internet, they have the entire world as a resource. V. CONCLUSION The impact of IT on society is hard to overestimate. Many of the developments, as I’ve indicated, have been positive, but there are some negatives as well, specifically a tendency to spent more time alone, or interacting only with the computer rather than with real people. Still, for most of us, IT has made a sizeable impact, and a positive one, on our lives. VI. REFERENCES http://www.cisp.org/imp/april_99/04_99kalil.htm http://www.wikipedia.com

Carton as Christ essays

Carton as Christ essays Throughout A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens paints a dynamic picture of Sydney Carton. At first, Carton appears a disillusioned lost soul, lost in a drunken stupor. However, as the story progresses, Carton becomes the ultimate savior. Replaced with compassionate manners, he comes to exemplify the Christian ideal of the New Testament, as he becomes a Christ-like figure in order to repent for the crimes committed by the Evermondes. In the beginning of A Tale of Two Cities, Carton is the lost soul. He is referred to as the jackal in contrast to Darnay who is referred to as the lion. As the jackal, Carton is always a few steps behind his counterpart, and should be eaten by the lion. Both Darnay and Carton acknowledge the dynamic present between them. Darnay is fully aware of his superiority stating, You are in a bad way, you know; you really are in a bad way. You dont know the value of money, you live hard, youll knock up one of these days, and be ill and poor (Dickens 169). As most people believe, Carton feels that he himself has no purpose. He agrees with the way other people feel about him and takes no initiative. However, Carton slowly becomes a kindhearted, well-established character that the audience can empathize with. Through his love for Lucie and little Lucie, Carton cleans up his act, so to speak. After Darnay and Lucie get married, Carton is the first to visit and offer his congratulations. It is in this scene that we first notice the change in Carton. Even Darnay notices a certain rugged air of fidelity about him (Dickens 251). Moreover, when Darnay is captured, Carton fills his void. Bonding with little Lucie to the point where she needs him to tuck her in every night, Carton begins to plan his final deed. Like Christ in the New Testament, Carton is seen as a resurrection character. He s ...

Free Essays on Yucca Mountain

History For more than two decades, the Shoshone tribe, scientists, environmentalists, the federal government, Nevada citizens and politicians have wrestled over the fate of Yucca Mountain. Yucca Mountain is located within the Western Shoshone Nation and has long been a place of powerful spiritual energy for the Shoshone tribe. The water in the area is also sacred, as it is with many desert peoples. Yucca Mountain, and the surrounding area, was never actually deemed government land. According to the 1863 Ruby Valley Treaty that the Shoshone signed with the U.S. government, most of the area now used by the U.S. military for nuclear weapons testing and the proposed waste storage site was recognized as Shoshone land. However, the Shoshone are unable to control what happens on their ancestral land. Instead, legislators continue to try to persuade the Shoshone to accept financial compensation for their land, which most view as a way to overshadow native title and prohibit future land claims. In the late 1970s government scientists began to study Yucca Mountain as a possible repository for nuclear waste, and since 1987 it has been the only site considered for 77,000 tons of spent nuclear fuel and other radioactive waste. 98% of all the radioactive waste generated by U.S. nuclear reactors may soon be headed for the mountain. There is already more nuclear waste than the repository can hold, unless the 77,000 ton limit is raised. Though the facility will not open until 2010 at the earliest, reactor waste now sitting in pools of water around the country will fill Yucca Mountain’s tunnels and leave room for less than one third of the government’s nuclear defense waste, leaving 7,500 tons with no place to go. Commercial nuclear power plants produce 2,000 tons of high level waste per year, and by the time Yucca Mountain would be full in 2035, there would be 42,000 tons of newly generated civilian waste at reactors around the country. Th... Free Essays on Yucca Mountain Free Essays on Yucca Mountain THE YUCCA MOUNTAIN NUCLEAR WASTE REPOSITORY After much research and reading about the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste and repository, I have gained much knowledge of the situation. I will share with you the facts and what I have learned researching this topic, as well as the pro’s and con’s and my favorite part, my personal opinion. One would hope that they would find this topic an interesting topic. The controversial issue that is occurring with the Yucca Mountain area is not weather its right or wrong, but more of what we should do with our nuclear waste and where to store it. â€Å"In July 2002, president Bush signed a bill designating the Yucca Mountain site for development as a repository for the disposal of spent nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste† (orcwm.doe.gov). A valley not too far away from â€Å"Sin City† aka Las Vegas, Nevada, there is a remote desert where Yucca Mountain is in for consideration for storing nuclear waste. The U.S. Department of Energy began to study in this area in 1978 to determine whether it would be a decent place to contain the nation’s first long-term geologic repository for spent nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste. Spent nuclear fuel is the radioactive by-product of making electricity commercial nuclear power plants and high-level radioactive waste is by-product from production at defense facilities. However, back in 1982, Congress also established a national policy to solve the problem of nuclear waste disposal. This policy is a federal law called the Nuclear Waste Policy c ongress based this policy on what most scientists worldwide agreed the better way that would work to dispose of the nuclear waste that has been accumulating over the years. Yucca Mountain was not the only place Congress had in mind where to store the nuclear waste; they also came up with six other states for consideration as potential repository sites. The researchers did not just p... Free Essays on Yucca Mountain INTRODUCTION: Yucca Mountain is the possible site of a nuclear repository designed to store and dispose of spent nuclear fuel. It is located in Nye County, Nevada, which is about 100 miles northwest of Las Vegas (this can be seen on Figure #1). This land is federally owned, and located on the edge of the Department of Energy’s Test Site. The repository would be located in the mountain and be approximately 1000 feet below the top of the mountain and 1000 feet above the groundwater level. The repository will be designed to hold well over the 77,000 tons of nuclear waste already accumulated. If the project receives approval, it would be the nations first geological repository for disposal of spent nuclear fuel. The Yucca Mountain site was chosen for several reasons. First of all, water is the main means of transporting waste out of a nuclear repository and into the environment. The Yucca Mountain site is located in one of the driest and remote places in the United States. The area receives less than 7.5 inches of rain per year, and 95 percent of that does not even reach the mountain. The site also has many natural barriers, which prevent what little water is available from entering the site. The possible site is also located on federally owned land, which eliminates the lengthy task of acquiring land from the state. There is also no risk that groundwater that serves any of the nearby cities will be contaminated by the site. This is not possible, because the groundwater system that encompasses Yucca Mountain is not connected to groundwater of the Las Vegas Valley. The groundwater system at Yucca Mountain is an isolated hydraulic basin; that is; it does not connect to any other water sources. Isolated hydraulic basins are a very rare feature, and it is very well suited for the site. For these reasons, Yucca Mountain was chosen as the possible site of the geological nuclear repository.
